Extraction Post Op Care

DO NOT RINSE YOUR MOUTH TODAY! Tomorrow rinse your mouth gently every 3-4
hours (especially after meals) with a glass of warm water. Continue to rinse for several
days to keep area clean.

DO NOT SPIT, SMOKE OR DRINK THROUGH A STRAW FOR THREE DAYS!

BLEEDING: Following extractions some bleeding is to be expected. If persistent
bleeding occurs, place gauze over bleeding area and bite down firmly for
½ hour.
Repeat as necessary.

SWELLING: An ice bag or chopped ice wrapped in a towel should be applied to
operated area 20 minutes on and 40 minutes off every
4-5 hours.

PAIN: For mild to average pain use any non-aspirin medication you like.

FOOD: Soft diet is advisable during the first 24 hours. Drink plenty of liquids.

BONY EDGES: Small sharp bone fragments may work up through gums during
healing. These are not roots. However, if they are annoying, you may return to the office
for their simple removal.

The proper care following oral surgical procedures will hasten recovery and prevent
complications.
